The US government is in the process of recalling nuclear safety employees who were terminated on Thursday, but is facing challenges in communicating this information to them, as reported by NBC News.

The workers from the National Nuclear Security Administration were among the hundreds of employees within the energy department who received dismissal letters. An email obtained by NBC mentioned that the termination letters for some NNSA employees are being revoked, but there is a lack of efficient communication channels to reach out to these individuals.

These terminations are part of a broader initiative by President Donald Trump to reduce the size of the federal workforce, a campaign that he initiated on his first day in office just under a month ago.

Last week, close to 10,000 federal employees were let go, according to various US media outlets. This number is in addition to an estimated 75,000 workers who have opted to voluntarily leave their positions by autumn.

The nuclear security officials who were laid off on Thursday played crucial roles in overseeing the nation’s stockpile of nuclear weapons. This included personnel stationed at facilities where the weapons are manufactured, as reported by CNN.

Efforts are being made to reach out to the affected workers. An email sent to current employees instructed them to collaborate with their supervisors to disseminate this information to the personal contact emails of the concerned individuals.

President Trump is actively working to reduce expenditure both domestically and internationally, even proposing the elimination of the education department. He is receiving assistance from Elon Musk, the wealthiest individual globally, who, through an initiative named Doge for Department of Government Efficiency, has deployed workers to sift through data at federal agencies and facilitate the «buyout» offer.

Recently, the Trump administration directed agencies to terminate nearly all probationary employees, those who had been in their roles for less than a year and had not yet attained job protection. This directive also impacted NNSA staff members.

In total, these actions could potentially impact hundreds of thousands of individuals. Some of the endeavors by the Trump administration to downsize government operations and spending have encountered legal challenges, with over 60 lawsuits being filed against the administration since the president’s inauguration on 20th January.
