An urgent amber weather warning has been issued by the Met Office due to heavy rain, adding to the existing alerts for high winds and showers across the UK.

Areas such as Northern Ireland, Scotland, the west coast of the UK, and the Midlands are under yellow warnings for strong winds on Sunday, which could lead to potential transportation disruptions and temporary power outages.

Furthermore, several regions in western UK are also under rain warnings.

The newly issued amber warning specifically targets south and central Wales for heavy rain, effective from 3pm on Sunday until 6am on Monday.

An amber warning signifies a significant risk to life from flooding, with homes and businesses likely to be affected, and the possibility of communities becoming isolated.

The Met Office has reported that wind speeds in the western part of the UK will escalate throughout the morning, with gusts reaching up to 70mph in exposed areas.

Meteorologist Zoe Hutin from the Met Office stated that Sunday is anticipated to be the most severe day before conditions start to improve.

«While the wind warning for mainland UK concludes at 6pm, we can still expect blustery conditions persisting into the evening as the mainland rain continues,» she explained.

She added, «By Monday morning, residual rain from the front will linger in the far south-east of the country, with cloudy conditions prevailing across England.»

«However, conditions elsewhere may see a more favorable start.»

The Met Office’s yellow weather warnings for England and Scotland were activated at 6am and are set to remain in effect until 6pm on Sunday.

A separate yellow warning for Northern Ireland came into effect at 3am and is scheduled to last until 3pm.

Individuals who have noticed a slight increase in temperatures over the past few days may be disappointed by the latest forecasts.

«Temperatures are gradually decreasing throughout the week,» mentioned Ms. Hutin.

«Although each day will be cooler, temperatures will eventually return to average levels for this time of year. It won’t be excessively cold, just a return to typical February conditions.»
