14-year-old boy charged in death of Glasgow teenager | UK News

In Glasgow on Wednesday night, a 14-year-old boy has been charged in connection with the death of a teenager. The victim, Amen Teklay, who was 15, was found seriously injured on Clarendon Street in the Scottish city around 10:30 pm.

Despite the arrival of paramedics, Amen was pronounced dead at the scene. Police have not disclosed the cause of death but revealed on Friday that following a post-mortem examination, Amen’s death is being treated as murder.

On Saturday, police announced that a 14-year-old and a 15-year-old boy were arrested in connection with the death. Subsequently, on Sunday, it was confirmed that the 14-year-old has been charged and is set to appear at Glasgow Sheriff Court tomorrow.

While there was no update provided by Police Scotland regarding the 15-year-old boy who was also arrested, investigations are ongoing. Amen’s family is receiving support from specially-trained officers.

Detective Chief Inspector Campbell Jackson expressed condolences, stating, «Our thoughts remain with Amen’s family and friends at this very difficult time. I would also like to thank the community for their support thus far. Our investigation continues, and I urge anyone with information to come forward.»

Superintendent Christopher Stewart reassured, «We are continuing to support Amen’s family and engage with the local community affected by this incident. There will be a visible policing presence in the area, and I encourage anyone with questions or concerns to approach a local officer for assistance.»

Amen was a pupil at St Thomas Aquinas Secondary School in Glasgow. Described as a bright student with a passion for music and media, his headteacher Claire McInally remarked, «This is a tragic situation. Our thoughts and prayers are with Amen’s family and friends during this devastating time. Amen was a friendly and much-loved young man with a keen interest in music and media. He displayed great promise.»

«This has been a shock for our school community, and we are committed to providing support to our students, staff, and those affected in the wider community,» McInally continued.
