Juggling Swords’ John Durrant named in top Scottish entrepreneurs list

JOHN Durrant, the managing director of content marketing start-up Juggling Swords, has been named in a list of Scotland’s top 20 entrepreneurs under 30.

John Durrant of Juggling Swords

The list, compiled by start-up accelerator programme Entrepreneurial Spark, was published as figures were released that show around 25 per cent of young people are expected to be self-employed in the next five years.

Durrant formed Juggling Swords in May this year after returning home from New Zealand where he worked for several media houses over a five-year period.

He said a long-held ambition to run his own company, coupled with a slow jobs market in media, led him to form Juggling Swords.

He said: “I always loved the idea of running my own media company in some form but the inherent risks and horror stories you hear about getting a start-up off the ground always put me off.

“Things were pretty slow in the jobs market for me when we came back to Scotland so setting up my own company actually became the obvious choice.

“I haven’t regretted any of it. Running your own company can be such a rollercoaster and you have some real highs followed by the inevitable lows but, all in all, it has been a fantastic experience.

“The focus for us is to continue to grow Juggling Swords to become the go-to agency for content marketing.”

Juggling Swords offers content marketing, strategy, planning and creation and can produce content - from high quality blogs and articles to videos and infographics - for a whole range of clients.

Other young companies on the list include a high fashion company; a firm producing board games for visually impaired children and a producer of bespoke, high-quality kitchen and bedroom installations.

Entrepreneurial Spark used three criteria to produce the list – traction (sales, team and business growth), funding (secured funding or generated significant revenue) and entrepreneurship (demonstrated a ‘live-and-breathe’ mindset).
