He said: “Alex Salmond and Alistair Darling have today accepted the decision of Scots with deep humility and that is wonderful; both need to be congratulated on reinvigorating not just Scottish politics, but UK politics. Today UK politics has been changed irrevocably forever thanks to the Scots.
“We in Scotland must now respect our differences and come together to build Scotland for all our futures.
“No doubt we are all emotional, I certainly am, about this decision but it is now up to all of us to make this decision work, accelerate its goodness and build on our small nation’s greatness. Scotland invented the modern world through the enlightenment with the likes of Hume and Smith, there is no reason that we can’t do it again if we take the passion shown by both sides of the debate and channel it for the common good of Scotland.
“I believe all Scots regardless of how they voted want to take care of those that can’t take care of themselves, we all believe food banks are an abomination and that child poverty is a disgrace. We now need to come together so that Scotland can lead the world in eradicating these blights on our society.
“Today I’m getting behind Scotland’s decision, it’s now time to get on with it. Good luck.”
